Company History

Mirai Associates was formed in 1998 by three professionals with more than 40 years of combined experience in the Northwest. Tom Noguchi, Donald Samdahl, and Kay Kenyon started Mirai in the back room of Tom's house (the garden office) using borrowed tables and blowing the electrical circuits in his 1950s rambler house. In 1999, Jana Janarthanan joined them and the office was moved to Bothell. Kay moved to Wenatchee in 2002 to continue her science fiction writing career.

We formed Mirai to assist jurisdictions in finding solutions to meeting the needs for transportation infrastructure to serve the growth in the region's transportation system as required by the Growth Management Act (GMA). Mirai gradually expanded and the Bothell office was no longer big enough. In 2004, the office was moved to Totem Lake in Kirkland. In 2005, Mirai added services in traffic engineering and traffic impact analysis, with the acquisition of the firm Transportation Planning & Engineering, Inc. (TP&E).

Our services now include street network planning and design; traffic signal and illumination system design; pedestrian and bicycle planning and safety studies; parking studies; and traffic analysis for environmental impact statements as well as transportation corridor/subarea planning studies. We enjoy the diversity of skills and talent that our staff brings to projects and clients.
